Sichuan Women’s Bicycle Photography Expedition: Tiananmen Entry Ceremony (1987) & World Record Recognition (2014)
In 1987, with governmental support, the “Sichuan Women’s Bicycle Photography Expedition” was organized as a long-distance field photography initiative. The expedition traveled across major geographic barriers—crossing the Qinling Mountains, the Yellow River, and continuing to Beijing. Along the route, provincial government offices issued formal documents of support, indicating clear administrative coordination and endorsement across regions.
After arriving in Beijing, the municipal government held a large entry ceremony for the team at Tiananmen Square, in front of the Monument to the People’s Heroes. The record places the ceremony in the broader post–Cultural Revolution context and presents it as a public, symbolic moment.
This expedition is included as part of the historical narrative of platform-building and urban photography development. The record further notes that in 2014, the expedition received world-record recognition, marking a documented outcome across a long time span—from the original undertaking to later certification.
